William Andrew Mittelstadt

William (Bill) Mittelstadt was called home into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 9th, 2026, in Moses Lake, Washington. Bill, as he was known by many, was born to parents Arthur and Marion Mittelstadt in Portland, Oregon on December 15th of 1943, the second of two sons. As a young boy, he attended Wilkes and Glenfair elementary schools, enjoying sports and spending time with his brother Richard and neighborhood friends. In 1962, he then graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon. It is important to note that at a young age, Bill came to see his need as a lost and guilty sinner and came to personally know Jesus Christ as his Lord, Savior and Friend. The Word of God would be his lifelong companion and guide. His keen interest in things electrical led him to pursue an education in electrical engineering, completing his Bachelor’s degree in (1966) and then his Master’s degree in (1968), both at Oregon State University. In 1966, while attending a Bible conference in Walla Walla, Washington, Bill was introduced in the lunch line to a lovely young lady who would soon become the joy and love of his life. Bill and Nancy Lee (Baden) were married on August 25, 1967 in Spokane, Washington and set up their home in their second story apartment in Corvallis, Oregon while Bill finished his schooling. Following an internship with Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon, Bill became a full-time employee with BPA and the young married couple resettled into their new home in northeast Portland in 1968. Bill would spend his entire professional career with BPA as a high voltage power transmission systems engineer. He greatly enjoyed this work with its technical challenges and also in later years, enjoyed guiding and mentoring younger engineers. Bill officially retired from Bonneville Power in 2004 but continued with consulting work for 14 more years. In 1968, a son, Robert William was born to Bill and Nancy followed by another son in 1970, Scott David. And in 1977, a daughter, Amy Michelle was gladly welcomed into the Mittelstadt family. In 1992, Scott was called home into the Lord’s presence. In 2010, Bill and Nancy moved from Portland, Oregon to Moses Lake, Washington. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; children Robert (Rebecca) and Amy (Harold); grandchildren Nanette, Lauren and Adelynn; brother Richard (Marilee). He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Scott and his granddaughter Elise. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bible Truth Publishers. Arrangements are under the care of Kayser's Chapel of Memories.
