Sharon Diane Steinmetz

Our beautiful and loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Sharon Diane Steinmetz, 80, long-time resident of Moses Lake, Wash., passed away Oct. 11, 2024, at Providence Hospital in Spokane, Wash., with her daughter and son by her side. Mom was born in Spokane on Dec. 10, 1943, to Paul and Josephine Weber and grew up in Milan, Wash. Mom graduated from Riverside High School in 1942 and was voted Most Athletic her senior year. Mom met the love of her life, Lonny, in 1965 while helping nurse him back to health, which is a true testament to her compassionate nature. They were married Jan. 7, 1967, and enjoyed 35 years of marriage before Dad’s death in 2001. Together they raised Rick, Melissa (Missy) and Lonny. Mom worked at Carnation/Nestle/Simplot for 29 years and finished her career as a bacteriologist. She loved what she did and everyone that she worked with, recounting happy memories for years to come following her retirement. Mom was passionate about her family and friends. Mom never met anyone that she didn’t consider a friend, often reminding everyone just how much she loved them. Mom was also devoted to her dog, Freddie. Until Freddie passed, you would see Mom, with Freddie on her lap, cruising on her scooter down Marina Drive or Broadway, stopping and chatting with everyone on the way. Mom always had red licorice and makings for nachos ready for anyone who came to visit. We will miss hearing her say, “Are you hungry?” as we walked in to visit her. Mom is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Missy) Proffitt, son and daughter-in-law Lonny and Julie Steinmetz, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Gail Weber of Spokane, sister Linda Thompson of Omak, Wash., sister and brother-in-law Paula and Loren Sperry of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, brother-in-law David Steinmetz of Ritzville, Wash., and brother-in-law Larry Steinmetz of Spokane. Mom leaves behind four granddaughters, Ashley (Danny) Hopkins, Shalon Gough (Jeremiah O’Hara), Haley (Jacob) Krejci and Danielle (Anthony) Palmen. Mom also had six precious great-grandchildren that she loved more than life itself, David Gough, Noah Gough, Oaklee Hopkins, Berkley Hopkins, Emberlynn Krejci and Isla Krejci. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Josephine Weber, parents-in-law Alex and Babe Steinmetz, husband Lonny Steinmetz I, son Rick Steinmetz, brother Jerry Weber and great-grandson Joshua O’Hara. Mom had a true heart of gold and will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. I love you Mom and will forever miss you. Services will be held at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake on Nov. 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice in Mom’s name would be greatly appreciated. Hennessey Funeral Home has been entrusted with her care.
