Scott DuVall

Scott DuVall, aged 54, passed away in Moses Lake, Washington, on March 16, 2023, after a long illness. Scott was born in Sunnyside, Washington, on September 19, 1968, to Dwight and Carolyn DuVall. He was the oldest of five children. He attended school in Royal City, Washington, graduating from Royal High School in 1987. Scott was a member of the National Honor Society, school clubs, and earned nine Athletic Sports Letters - four in football, three in track and two in basketball. Scott attended Big Bend Community College, earning his AA Degree. He transferred to Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA, where he earned his Bachelor of Education Degrees in History and Math. He taught school in Longview, Washington, earning his Masters of Education Degree along the way. Scott met his wife, Cris Baca at a ballroom dancing studio in Portland, Oregon, where they danced a couple nights a week; they were married in 2001. He later changed careers, attending Washington State University, in Spokane, to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in 2007. Scott moved to Moses Lake in 2015 and did some substitute teaching in the Moses Lake School District. Scott's favorite pastime was sitting in his recliner and reading books - hand-held or Kindle. Friends in Longview recount how they would frequently see him carry large brown grocery bags of books into the second-hand bookstore to exchange them for different books to take home. His passion for reading adventure and sci-fi began with the Star Wars movies in the late 1970's. His subject interests included many genres and authors - and he still enjoyed Star Wars, and added Star Trek and many other movie series, and PBS, BBC, and Documentaries. Scott never stopped learning and taught that knowledge to everyone until the day he died. Scott loved to have fun with family and friends - laughing, talking, teasing, horsing around, card games on a team bus, the game of 'spoons', flying kites on the beach and riding go-carts in Long Beach, family barbecues and all holiday dinners, dancing with Cris, costume parties, dorm parties, having a beer with friends. He had a great sense of humor about most things - even politics. He was a lifelong Democrat. Scott is survived by his mother, Carolyn DuVall, Moses Lake, three brothers; Steven Du Vall, Moses Lake, his wife Kate, and their three children, Mark DuVall, Moses Lake, his wife Hollie, and their five children, Tom DuVall, Pasco, WA, his wife Jeni, and their two children and a sister, Kate Tobin, Spokane, WA. her husband Mike, and their two children. Scott's ex-wife, Cris Baca DuVall resides in Longview, WA. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dwight DuVall, in 2009; maternal grandparents, Emery and Barbara Carvo; paternal grandparents, Forrest and Ester DuVall; three aunts, Janis Carvo, Nancy Kanoff, and Joann DuVall; and one uncle, Alan Atchison. Funeral arrangements are with Kayser's Chapel of Memories and Our Lady of Family Catholic Church, 200 N Dale Rd, in Moses Lake, WA. The funeral service is on Friday, April 21, 2023. Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. and Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served after mass and burial in the Prayer Garden.
