Paula Ybarra

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paula Ybarra on March 31, 2025, in Moses Lake, WA. She was 96 years old at the time of her death, and surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 2, 1929, in Mathis, Texas, Paula Trevino Ybarra was the daughter of Francisco and Juanita Trevino and was one of thirteen siblings. Her childhood was filled with joy, love, and the company of family and friends. She treasured the dances she attended, where she wore beautiful dresses made by her sister Carmen. They enjoyed these moments so much that they earned the nickname “Muñecas,” meaning “Dolls.” Paula was a social butterfly from a young age, cherishing every moment spent with friends and family which led to her forming lifelong friendships wherever she went. She met her husband, Jose (Joe) Ybarra, in Texas, and they shared more than 52 years of marriage together. Their journey together eventually led them to Moses Lake, Washington, where Paula worked briefly for the local school district before fully embracing her roles as a devoted wife and loving mother. Family gatherings were celebrations filled with laughter, love, and the delightful aromas of her cooking. Her famous stuffing, perfected over the years, became a cherished tradition that united everyone. Alongside her culinary talents, Paula was a passionate gardener; her stunning rose garden and vegetable patch not only provided beautiful scenery but also contributed delicious food for many family gatherings. Paula's life was characterized by her love and commitment to family and friends. As a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she exemplified the values of family. Her strong faith as a member of Our Lady of Fatima’s Guadalupanas provided guidance throughout her life, while her warmth, kindness, and humor touched everyone she encountered. Paula is survived by her siblings, Olivia Cruz, Sylveria Martinez, and Henry Trevino, as well as many nieces and nephews across Washington and Texas. She leaves behind her loving children, Esmeralda Hernandez (Paul), Yolanda Reyna, and Mary Garza, along with her wonderful grandchildren: Jared Reyna and his wife Julia, Alyssia Garza and her fiancé Joey Oronia, Ciarra Zavala and her husband Hector Zavala, Celina Hernandez, and Gabriel Hernandez. Paula is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Joseph Reyna, Amaiya Reyna, Eusebio Reyna, Camilo Reyna, Cosmas Reyna, Malia Oronia, Averie Oronia, Zé Zavala, and Alonzo Zavala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose (Joe) Ybarra, and her son-in-law, Alfred G. Garza. A Rosary will be held at 10 a.m., followed by Holy Mass at 10:30 a.m. on April 28th at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake. Interment will take place at a later date at Pasco City View Cemetery in Pasco, WA. After the Mass, friends and family are invited to gather at the Fatima Center next to the Catholic church. May she rest in peace, and may we all feel surrounded by God’s love during this difficult time
