James C. Gettings

James Curtis Gettings, 46, of Moses Lake, went home to God on March 25, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grape Drive Chapel. James was born on June 23, 1965, 13 minutes before his twin sister and womb-mate (as he called her), Lori, to Gail and Elizabeth Gettings and attended all of the Moses Lake schools. At 21 he married Sherry Martinez and was very proud of his daughter, Brooke Marie, born of that union. James was very fitness minded and won titles like Mr. Oregon, Snapple Cup Heavyweight Champion and Evergreen State Body Building Champion. He also competed in many weight lifting competitions, setting several records in Washington and Oregon. James studied hard about nutrition and weight training and became a fitness trainer in 2002. He built many lifelong friendships through his ability to help others heal, like John and Pam Toevs of Quincy who partnered with him to buy Quincy Valley Fitness Center and later owning and operating Pro-Fit where he continued to train people who never thought they would walk again. In October 2007, he married the love of his life for 18 years, April, and mother of his son Kurrick L. Gettings, who was his very best friend. He spent many hours together with Kurrick and April competing in Motor cross racing and later UFC Ultimate Fighting where James and April were always ringside. James is survived by his wife, April; son Kurrick; daughter Brooke, Las Vegas; mother Elizabeth (Bob) Gettings-Price, Roseburg, Oregon; older brother Joseph (Annette) Gettings, Renton, WA; sister, Barbara (Doug) Maderas, Los Banos and twin sister (the late Kirby) Lori Messer, Moses Lake; numerous nieces and nephews as well as multiple friends that he considered as family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gail Gettings in 2007 and brother-in-law, Kirby Messer in 2010. James could always be counted on to make everyone laugh and would want to be remembered laughing. He never minced words and was the “king” of one-liners. James left this earth way too early. James will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
