James Merrill Kimble

James Merrill Kimble April 24,1937 - June 9, 2024 James Merrill Kimble was born to Merrill and Iva Kimble April 24, 1937 in Viola, ID and grew up the youngest of four boys alongside his siblings Kenneth, Lowell and Bob. Jim graduated from Moscow High School, where he met his beloved wife Kathryn Torpey. Stationed in Hawaii, he served our country as PFC in the United States Army. After his discharge, he moved to Warden, WA where he farmed with his brother Kenneth before purchasing his own farm. He and Kathy ran a true family farm for 50+ years with help from their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. Jim and Kathy were blessed with three daughters Cari Jo, Debra Gail and Angela Jane. Jim was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and an active member and Deacon of the Warden First Baptist Church. In later years he attended the Moses Lake First Baptist Church. Jim hosted annual harvest parties and caroling events, taught Sunday School and Bible Studies and was involved in various youth activities. Jim was a dedicated family man who seldom missed his daughters' and grandchildren's sporting events. He served on both the PCA and the Moses Lake Christian Academy Board of Directors. He also enjoyed attending and supporting the annual Grant County Fair and Rodeo. Jim and Kathy shared a love for snow skiing, camping, and RVing with friends and family and were snowbirds traveling to Arizona each winter for several years. 40 years after selling his first car, a 1956 Ford Victoria, he bought it back and restored it to the original condition. He proudly showcased it at many car shows and local parades. Jim and Kathy were married 54 years. After Kathy's passing in 2012 his pup Katie became his constant companion. Jim was a Superfan of the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Golden State Warriors. He loved a Hot Grande Skinny Caramel Macchiato and never missed an opportunity to stop at a Starbucks. On his 87th birthday, Jim reflected on his life by saying, "I'm proud of my family," and "God has been good to me." The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at The Monroe House for their exceptional care, love, kindness and dignity shown to him during his time there. A special thank you to Aida and her staff for their compassionate care during his last weeks. Jim is survived by his daughter's Cari (Paul) Yamane of Warden, WA, Debbie (Tony) Hoilman of Starbuck, WA and Angela Kimble of Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Ryan Yamane, Jamie McCloy, Jacob Yamane, Samantha Brown, Travis Matzen, Stephanie Cole, Matthew Hoilman, Sabree Zuniga, Adrian, Isaac, and Marcus Loera and 22 great-grandchildren w/ 3 on the way! He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy, his parents, an infant daughter, his brothers, Kenneth, Lowell and Robert Kimble, his son-in-law, Darrell Matzen and step-father, Lloyd Hull.
