Daniel Fisher

Daniel English Fisher, age 54, was born in the Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California January 11, 1954 seven minutes after his older brother, Jerome William Fisher. He was the son of Joseph R. Fisher Jr. and Kathryn Savaloja. He and his family moved from Quincy to Moses Lake in August of 1962, at which time he enrolled in the Moses Lake School system. He attended Midway Elementary School during his third and fourth grades and Longview Elementary for his fifth and sixth grades. The following 3 years of Junior High he spent at Frontier and was subsequently in the Moses Lake Senior High School class of 1972. Dan was active in Little League (8-12 yr. olds) baseball and played for the Giants (1 of 4 teams which included the Chiefs, Red Socks and Tigers) in the International League (1 of 3 leagues in Moses Lake which included the American and Pacific Coast). In 1966 he was selected to play on the International League All Star Team as a pitcher. Dan enlisted in the US Army June 1971 after his junior year in high school. His Army career was cut short for medical reasons and he was honorably discharged later that year. On his return he cashiered at Basin Oil Company’s “OK Self Service & Pop Shoppe” station on West Broadway next door to OK Tire, prior to relocating to Pullman where he worked as a “short order fry cook” in a diner. Later he moved to the Tri Cities where he worked for a painting contractor while attending college. It is uncertain what his curriculum was or what his professors expounded, but it was at this junction in his life when he chose the career path of a “Drifter”. As a father, my perception was Dan responded mostly to Yogi’s advice, “When you come to a fork in the road- Go for it”, which does not specifically imply you should take one road or the other. As a result he got some pretty good “bruises”, but he was a survivor. You could drop Dan off in the middle of the Mojave Desert in the morning and he would make it back in town in time for Happy Hour. On the plus side, no thanks to Yogi, Dan was an avid reader and had an exceptional vocabulary, particularly in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, and was very articulate. If you had given him a quick shave and haircut and a long white jacket he could have easily passed himself off as a doctor or pharmacist. The head nurse from Portland, who advised me of Dan’s passing, probably best described him when she said, “He was a character, very intelligent and interesting and pleasant to visit with.” Dan loved children and revered God, so I believe he is now “Drifting” in the right direction! He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Allie Mae Fisher; his grandparents, Joseph R. Sr. (Grandpops) and Neida Edris Fisher (Meme) and Chester and Florence English. He is survived by his Father, Joseph R Fisher Jr; Mother, Kathryn Savaloja and her husband Ken of Portland, OR.; brother Jerome William Fisher and his wife Mary and their children Rebecca (Fisher) Haight and her husband Jared and John Rosser Fisher; a stepbrother, Father (Daniel) Aaron and his wife Lily Appleby of Yucca Valley, CA.; a stepbrother, Darrell and his wife Fredene Appleby of Moses Lake, WA and their children Chad Appleby and Courtney (Appleby) Plaisted and her husband Brian Plaisted and their sons Skyler and Carter; a stepsister Gina and her husband Jerry Estrin of Moses Lake, WA and their children Michael and Helen Pugh and their sons Nathan & Tanner; Eric Pugh and Rhonda Alvarado and their son Blake; Jennifer Pugh and her daughters Jorydn, Jaydn, Jocelynn, and Jennah; and Amy Pugh and Moises Beliz and their son Moises; Stepsister, Lisa and Tom Schiffner of Kent, WA and their children Trissa (Schiffner) Chasko and her husband Joel, Jason Schiffner and his wife Megan and Michelle (Schiffner) Bibeau and her husband David.
