William "Don" Thompson

May 28, 1925 - July 8, 2018

William Donald (Don) Thompson May 28, 1925 -- July 8, 2018 William D. Thompson (Don) was born on May 28, 1925 To Alice J. and A. R. Thompson he was a lifelong resident of Coulee City, WA Don graduated from Hill Military School Portland OR. After graduation he went into the Army, where he was a member of The Twelfth Armored Division (nickname "Hellcats") and they were sent directly to Europe moving across France and into Germany into Austria. The Germans called them the "Mystery Division" because they always showed up behind them!! They liberated many satellite camps of Dachau and other Concentration Camps. After the war he returned home and married Kathleen Quann and together they ran The Thompson Hotel and Don's Men's Wear. Don was active in his Community serving as Mayor, School Board Chairman, Port District, Municipal Judge, Last Stand Rodeo, VFW. Volunteer Fire Department and Golf Club. He retired from Grant County Public Works. He and his wife Kate (d. 2004) raised 5 children, Mary Haney, Susan Sposari (Ron), Donna Litt (Jerry), Teri Thompson (Kevin Eliason) and Ross Thompson (Kathy) He was "Papa Don" to Jason Litt (Ann) , Casey Litt, Heidi Mayer (Brian), Andy Sposari and he was affectionately known as "Pops" to Christoper (Topher) and Nicole Goodwin. "Papa Don" had two great-grandsons Eli Litt and Kolby Mayer. Don was known for his patience and this served him well teaching many kids to water ski! Graveside Services are scheduled for July 27, 2018 at 1 pm in the Hartline Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers donations to the Coulee City Senior Center or the Coulee City Ambulance Fund would be appreciated. Informal Gathering for memories and munchies at the Senior Center after the service .
