Nolen Gene Merkley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nolen Gene Merkley, 78, passed away June 26,2022. Nolen was born on Sept 18, 1943 in Anaheim CA, to Gene and Opal Merkley. His family moved to Moses Lake when he was about 12 yrs old. After graduating from Moses Lake High school in 1961, Nolen served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England area. He later served in the Army National Guard. Nolen worked as a mechanic for over 30 years, owning and operating Merkley’s Mobile Maintenance. He was known throughout Moses Lake for his mechanical skill and his hot pink and teal mechanic shop (color was selected by his daughter Kara). He was an avid fire arms enthusiast and spent many weekends at the shooting range or a variety of shooting competitions. Nolen is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Opal Merkley, his wife Pamela Merkley (Lalk), his sister Alona Leavitt, brother-in-law Michael Leavitt, and his ex-wife DaLila Merkley. He is survived by his 2 children Kara Caldwell, Cale Merkley (Sharon), Spokane Valley, WA, his Grandchildren Karson Mitchell, Keaton Thompson (Landon), Xander, Jordan, Jaiden and Rylan Merkley, 1 great granddaughter, his 2 stepchildren Cheryl Lalk (Jason) and Kevin Lalk, as well as various nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing July 9, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rose St. Chapel at 9 am with funeral services to follow at 10 am. Grave side dedication to follow at Pioneer Memorial. Arrangements have been provided by Kayser’s Chapel of Memories, Moses Lake, WA.
