Lois Ann Shinn

February 3, 1927 - February 1, 2022

Lois Ann Shinn was born to Charles F. and Anna (Dunham) Schimmels on February 3, 1927, in Spokane, Washington and died peacefully on February 1, 2022, at her home in Moses Lake, Washington. She was surrounded by loving family members, daughters Denise Heard and Connie Beck, and granddaughter Melissa Hutsell and husband, Marty Smith. At her passing, Lois was 94 years old, just two days shy of her 95th birthday. Lois was loved and cherished by her immediate and extended family, her friends, and those who had the pleasure of meeting her. She was always welcoming to whomever she came in contact with. She and Frank had an open-door policy to the many families and other visitors who came to their beautiful home in the Moses Lake countryside where they raised their five children. Summers and holidays were often fun and adventurous times at the “farm” and then at the “ranch” where Lois lived for many years after she and Frank divorced. She loved to travel and spent extended time in Greece once living on the island of Crete for an entire summer. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Moses Lake Classic Car Club and was the proud owner of a vintage Packard. She is remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as fun-loving with a devilish nature, a big smile, and a gleam in her eye. She loved the many dogs she had as companions over the years. The surviving three, Jasper, Summer & Yogi, who could barely be enticed off her lap, will miss her terribly. She was the matriarch of a large family including her five children, two of whom, sadly, predeceased her, Stephen Bradley Shinn and John Michael Shinn. She is survived by her children Denise Heard, Frank Shinn, III, and Connie Beck (Larry) as well as nine grandchildren including Aimee Sheridan (Brad), Stephanie Hughes (Mark), Christopher Hutsell (Teresa), Heidi Sheridan, Melissa Hutsell (Marty), Brooke Shinn, Matthew Shinn (Tracy), Stacy Shinn (Jefferson) and Ryan Shinn. Her legacy continues with nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson who she was able to hold in her arms last summer. She leaves behind two of her ten siblings, Charles “Chas” Schimmels (Judy) and Laurelyn “Lolly” Rothrock along with numerous nieces and nephews. A private Celebration of Life will be held in September of this year. Donations in her memory can be made to Grant County Animal Outreach or Catholic Charities.
