Yvonne Cummings

It is with great sadness that our family mourns the loss of Caryl (Yvonne) Forsyth Cummings, who passed away on March 24th, 2014 in her home in Moses Lake, Washington. Diagnosed with cancer and given six months to live, Yvonne’s determination and zeal for life converted those six months into six years full of life, love and laughter. Yvonne was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada on March 1, 1945 along with her twin, Cheryl (Sherry) Forsyth Avena. In 1955, the family moved from Cardston, Alberta Canada to Moses Lake, Washington. Yvonne attended Lakeview Elementary, Chief Moses Junior High and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1963. Yvonne attended college in Hawaii and later graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology. One of her first jobs after graduation was as Director of the Moses Lake Community Services. During her tenure, she dedicated herself to ensuring struggling families had access to the services needed to better their circumstances. Yvonne loved to cook for her family and friends. Adventurous in the kitchen (as well as life), she spent many hours experimenting and was always interested in new recipes or tricks of the trade. As a result, she collected hundreds of cookbooks over her lifetime. In 2002, she married her long time love, John W. Cummings, a Korean War Veteran, who preceded her in death. Yvonne’s parents, long time Moses Lake residents Gladys B. Forsyth and N. Scott Forsyth, also preceded her in death. Yvonne is survived by her sister Cheryl (Sherry) Avena, her brother Ryan S. Forsyth and her two god-children Alex and Alexia Yearout. Yvonne used to say, “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” Throughout her life, she tried to be a kind and loving person to all she met. She had a huge heart and encouraged compassion in others. Yvonne’s love, flamboyant nature, raucous laughter and generous spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
