Pauline Bowen

Pauline Bowen, 91, passed away March 21, 2008 in Boise, Idaho. Pauline was born to Talullah and Edward Haney in Greenville, South Carolina on January 23, 1917. In her early twenties, Pauline attended nurses’ training in Pocatello, Idaho where her strong work ethic, bright smile and gift for dealing with difficult patients won the appreciation of staff and fellow students. One patient, Casey Earl Bowen, and Pauline were married on March 19, 1938. Pauline and Earl became parents to three daughters. The family moved to Moses Lake in 1952 where Pauline and Earl planted and cared for their property in Cascade Valley. Pauline worked as the head- housekeeper at the Oasis Motel from 1960 to 1982. Summer evenings were often spent canning or freezing fruits and vegetables Pauline and Earl harvested from their organic garden. They always grew more than needed, giving the surplus to extended family, friends, neighbors and strangers who’d traveled several miles to see the beautiful yard they’d heard of. Pauline taught her children and grandchildren the life strengths of respect for self and others, the importance of responsibility, the joy of reading, and a profound appreciation of nature. Her love of family and belief in an eternal family lead Pauline and Earl to be sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS Temple in Cardston, Alberta Canada on June 14, 1974. It was one of the happiest and most grateful days in Pauline’s life. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother. She is survived by three daughter honored to have had her as a mother: Kay Wood of Pelham, Alabama, Glenda (Adrian) Lindfors and Laura (Jeff) Vodovoz all of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren; Curtis and Alan Wood, Sharon (Tim) Allen, June (Geoffrey) Eggleton, John and Bill (Mona) Barrett, Christopher Bruce, Laurie(Steve) Barbey, Jamie (Andy) Gearhart, and several great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Capitol Care Center and Legacy Home Health and Hospice in Boise, Idaho. Graveside services will be held at Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.
