Paul Ray Steffler

Paul Ray Steffler, 53, of Spokane, WA passed away at his home on April 3, 2019. He was dearly loved by his parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. Espially loved by his many devoted caregivers at Assisted Residential Services. Paul was born June 6, 1965 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Philip J. Steffler and Ora F. (Dye) Steffler. Paul loved the outdoors- going on long walks, camping, four-wheeling, biking, swimming and anything/everything to do with balls. He was a special down syndrome child who forever blessed our family in celebrating differences, learning patience and bonding family in ways that only those blessed with these children could know. He had a separate greeting for each sibling which was always used when gathering or visiting. At approximately two years of age he moved with his family from Mohrland, ID to Bruneau, ID where they stayed for a year before moving to Moses Lake, WA. At 18 years of age he moved to Juniper Ridge Group Home to be with his peers. He then resided at Directions in Community Living on the air base. In 2016 he moved to Lakeland Village in Medical Lake, WA for a brief stay and then onto Assisted Residential Services in Spokane. Paul was very active and always on the move. Pedometers were attached to caregivers who received daily workouts in excess of 10,000 steps. Along with all this movement came a lot of mischief and playfulness. Lacking hearing and speech he developed other senses and quickly assessed personalities of those he came into contact. It didn’t take long to know if he liked or objected to you. He only wanted personable and caring people around him. Paul is survived by his mother, Ora F. Steffler; brothers Gary L. (Verla) Steffler and Philip J. (Tara) Steffler Jr; sisters Paulette M. (Filiberto) Rivera, Sandra J. Green and Wilhelm Daida, Julia A Steffler and Johnie Batten and Jackie O. (John) Sielaff. He was preceded in death by his father Philip J. Steffler; brother Brian Steffler ; sister Diane Kay (Steffler) Hernandez; brothers-in-law Eusivio (Wedo) Hernandez and Chester Alan Green; and niece Keri Linn Torado.
