Omar V. Suarez

Omar V. Suarez, also well known as “Smokey,” passed away in 2026, in Moses Lake, Washington, at the young age of 61. He was born in 1965, in Othello, Washington, to Samuel and Maria Elena Suarez. On December 22, 1988, Omar married the love of his life, Alma Martinez, in Mexico. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with their four sons, Alvin, Omar Jr., Adrian, and Alex. He was a self-employed farmer who started working the land when he was very young. Through years of hard work and early mornings, he gave everything he had to build a good, comfortable life for his wife and sons. In December 2024, Omar was diagnosed with cancer. He fought it with amazing strength for two years before he bravely decided to discontinue chemotherapy, choosing to focus on enjoying the time he had left on earth with those who meant the most to him and doing the things he loved most. Omar took great pride in his home and especially his yard, always making sure it was well cared for. He enjoyed the satisfaction of a freshly mowed lawn and keeping everything looking just right. He thoroughly enjoyed his winters spent in Mexico, where he could relax, enjoy the warmer weather, and make memories with those he loved. Omar also enjoyed spending time outdoors. He especially loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He found joy in being outside and enjoying life at his own pace. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, creating memories, enjoying their company, and watching them grow. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the love he shared with each of them will always be remembered. Whether working in his yard, enjoying a spontaneous BBQ, spending winters in Mexico, spending time with his grandchildren, or simply being surrounded by family, Omar knew how to appreciate the little things that made life special. No gathering was complete without a bonfire, and Omar loved being the one to light it. Sometimes, he would light a fire simply because he loved the smell of it. Those little moments brought him happiness and became memories his family will always cherish. Omar is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Alma Suarez; his sons, Alvin Suarez (Erin), Omar Suarez Jr. (Lauren), Adrian Suarez (Meghan), and Alex Suarez (Madison); his mom, Maria Elena Suarez; his sisters, Lilia Martinez (Roy) and Odilia Suarez; his brothers, Lorenzo Suarez (Socorro) and Leonardo Suarez (Rebecca); his six grandchildren, Braxton, Brynlee, Mykenli, Zailey, Jeter, and Naivy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and compadres. Omar will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for the life, memories, and moments they shared with him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Omar is preceded in death by his dad, Samuel Suarez, and his brother, Jose Luis Suarez. Funeral services will be held on September 18th, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 200 N Dale Road, Moses Lake, WA. Rosary will start at 10:00 AM, with Mass immediately following. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Fatima Center, located next to the church, immediately following the burial.
