John "Jack" Leftwich

John ‘Jack’ Frederick Leftwich, “The Iron Man”, was born in Tacoma, WA on February 27, 1932, but moved to Spanish Fork, UT as a child. Jack married Jeanine Fullmer and together they raised four children in Provo, UT; Katrina (Craig) Olsen, John (MaryLu) Leftwich, Linda (Terry, deceased 12-6-09) Cooper, and Kelly (Shelley) Leftwich. Jack and Jeanine later divorced. He married Linda Irene Wiberg in 1977, and claimed her daughter, Kim Kendall (Garrick) Mickelsen, as if she was his own. His family was completed in 1979 when his baby, Jackie (Kevin) Osborne, was born. Jack passed away Friday while returning home from his final day of work at his prized antique automobile museum, Memories R Forever, in Moses Lake, WA where he had acquired over 150 vehicles. He allowed the public to tour the museum “free of charge”. Jack dedicated his life to building many successful businesses. He began his work ethics at the tender age of eight, milking cows. He left home at 14 to help support his family. He saved his earnings and bought his first dump truck at 16. He started excavating, creating Leftwich Construction doing pipelines. He later merged with Davis Construction forming Davis & Leftwich Construction. When that company was dissolved, he took the name D&L Supply. He realized the need for construction castings and began importing them from China, Brazil and India. After they were unable to meet his needs, he began preparing to build D&L Foundry, in Moses Lake. Jack was a Lifetime member of the Elk’s and a member of Riverside Country Club in Provo. He was a champion racer in the National Boat Racing Association, a licensed pilot, avid bowler, and he loved playing and “coaching” golf and traveling the world. He was a BYU Cougar Club Golden Cougar, an enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, and sponsored various local youth sports; he showed tremendous generosity throughout his life for those in need. He loved his pets and feeding the hummingbirds. Jack was well known as “The Iron Man” but to those of us who knew him outside of the business world, he was a soft teddy bear. His heart was warm and he could never refuse a request for help. He made it known that he was so proud of his children and the way they lived their lives. He left this world knowing that his children were all well and happy and that he had left behind an amazing legacy! Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Opal Haws and Leonard Leftwich, his eldest sister Bonnie Brereton and his little brother Dean, his son-in-law, Terry Cooper, his grandson Michael Cooper and his first wife, Jeanine. He is survived by his wife and six children, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren, his brothers Laverne, Mark and Robert and his sister Charlotte Caley. We would like to thank Dr. David Earl for his dedication and taking such remarkable care of our father. Dr. Earl said “He is the only man he knew with two weeks to live for the last five years.” He gave him several of his nine lives! We would also like to thank his daughter, our sister, Kim, for doing everything for him, except breathing. A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Memories R Forever, 424 South Burress Avenue, Moses Lake, WA 98837. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, UT 84606. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, UT.
