DeAnna Fay LaVoie-Smith

DeAnna LaVoie, passed away on February 7, 2022, due to medical complications. Dee had a full life which brought her into many lines of work. She was just as comfortable being the head cook on a fishing tender in Alaska waters as she was being a cattle farmer or a bricklayer. She even did dog grooming. She was a travel agent and rode across the country on a motorcycle. She also lived for a few years on a sailboat. Deep down, she was a creative entrepreneur at heart. She owned a business that combined a restaurant, an antique store, and an upholstery shop. She created her own patterns and knew her way around a sewing or upholstery machine. She also loved to draw, and paint. She had a love of animals that ranged from taking care of kittens that needed to be hand-fed to adoring her pet ferret. She always had a variety of pets that kept everyone entertained, however, her favorite animal would be a cat. She had a long list of favorite things with as much variety as the rest of her life. Her favorite movies were “Greystoke The Legend of Tarzan” and “Grizzly”. Her favorite song was “Time in A Bottle”. Her favorite food was bacon potato soup. Her favorite drink was Vodka cranberry. Her favorite flower was the sunflower. Her favorite mythological animal was a mermaid. Her love of cooking was obvious and she could make a few items into a feast. You didn’t forget it when you sat at her table or were at a reunion where she brought something to look forward to. Dee made friends for life. We will all miss Dee for so many reasons. She loved family. She was preceded in death by her father Ray Flagg. She is survived by her mother Fay Flagg, her husband David Gwinnett, daughter Jennifer Ollice (Erik), brothers Darwin Flagg (Marisha) Del Flagg, and Dennis Flagg (Jan). She was a proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Katherina, DeAnna and Nathanial as well as one great-grandchild, Dorothy. Though she suffered a lot physically, she didn’t let that stop her from enjoying life. We will remember her bits of knowledge from her varied experiences, her laughter, and will always be envious of her green thumb. She was just as at home on the ocean, as traveling in the skies, or in the garden. She will always find a home in our hearts.
