Darel Wayne Olson

Darel Wayne Olson, age 70, of Moses Lake, Washington passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Darel was born on April 10, 1946 and was a lifetime resident of Grant County who grew up on his family’s farm and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1964. Darel loved the community he was born and raised in and enjoyed countless good times in the company of family and friends. To say that Darel was an avid outdoorsman would be an understatement. He spent all the time he possibly could hunting, fishing, camping, boating and snow skiing with friends and family. He spent several seasons gold dredging on the Simikameen River near Oroville, WA. While he never “struck it rich,” he no doubt shared a few colorful stories and a lot of laughs! Darel was honored to share his knowledge and love of the outdoors with area youth by serving as Cub Scout Leader for Pack 71 for 3 years. In recent years he enjoyed a love/hate relationship with the area casinos and spent countless weekends visiting them with his ‘partner-in-crime,’ Sharon Clark. Darel will be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather and FRIEND. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Olson and his puppy girls Drinda, Midgers and Missy. He is survived by his mother - Emily Olson; his “Missy” - Sharon Clark and her family; two sisters - Betty Wolford and Charlene Olson Foss; brother - Duane Olson; three sons - Richard (Heather), Douglas (Tina) and Don (Tina); six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and his puppy girls - Cassie and Cheyenne. He would like to thank his “angels” that helped him and that were there with him through the end. If you were one, he made sure you knew you were. Celebration of Darel’s life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1142 West Ivy Avenue, Moses Lake, Washington 98837. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
