Brent E. Blake

Brent Ewing Blake passed away peacefully Sept 24th 12:30 a.m. with a circle of family and close friends around him. He lived artfully and celebrated life enthusiastically. In his own words, he had “a beautiful life.” Given just six weeks to live when diagnosed with leukemia September 2012, he confronted the prognosis with a positive attitude and optimism, miraculously stretching a few weeks into over a year. Brent was born in Blackfoot, ID, July 2nd, 1941 and grew up in Moses Lake with parents Reed and LaRue Blake, brothers Gary and Wally, and sister, Sandra. He also had a sister, Beverly Rose, who died at birth. Brent always had a strong interest in art, which he developed into a successful career in architecture and interior design. He moved to Bellevue, WA, in the early 70s where he raised his six children: daughters Velvet, Ginger, Heather and Tiffany, and sons Braden and John. His progeny now includes six grandchildren: Caiti, Aleyna, Chelsea, Casey, Coartney & Stella, and great-granddaughter Dahlia. In the early 2000s he was drawn to return to Eastern Washington and there created a new family in Soap Lake consisting of friends, artists and art enthusiasts. All have become fervent supporters of his Soap Lake Art Museum and monthly SLAM celebrations of art. He infused the community with creativity and unbridled enthusiasm. His goal to revitalize the local economy via outrageous art installations included the idea to put a 65-foot Lava Lamp at the center of town. That idea has garnered attention from news outlets world-wide and has been featured in a documentary film. The goal remains to make his vision a reality. Brent was a creative juggernaut and a truly inspiring person. He treasured and loved all people. He touched many lives. He and his bright light will be dearly missed. His memorial service will be held Monday September 30th at 2:00 pm at the Moses Lake LDS Stake Center, 1515 S Division St, Moses Lake, WA 98837 The family will greet friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m., Monday, September 30th at the church. Following the service there will be a gathering for the burial at the Soap Lake Cemetery and a reception at SLAM, Brent’s home, 410 East Main Ave, Soap Lake, WA 98851
